Benefits

This is a creative opportunity to explore more about the eight-day festival of lights. Jewish parents and caregivers may be introducing children to their own culture’s history and traditions of Hanukkah. Non-Jewish families can also gain a lot from teaching kids about the specifics of another culture and religion. Explaining the story of Hanukkah to children can open the discussions of being brave. Why not ask the children about a time when they have had to be brave themselves.
  1. 1. Cut a paper plate in half and decorate. We used glue and glitter.
  2. 2. Make candles using craft items of your choice. You’ll need 8 or 9. We used popsicle sticks, matchsticks and tissue paper.
  3. 3. Stick the candles to the back of your decorated plate using tape or glue.
  4. 4. Why not attach some ribbon so you can hang yours up as a decorative piece?
  5. 5. Want an extra challenge? Learn a fact about Hanukkah for each candle you stick on to your Menorah?
