My Nature Journal

At Hug-a-Bug World, we talk a lot about the benefits of keeping journals – both for children and their caregivers. Keeping a nature journal helps your Little Bug slow down when they’re outdoors and take in their surroundings.

Benefits

Nature journaling is a simple yet creative way for kids to learn about nature and themselves. And they can do it just about anywhere there’s a patch of nature!

  1. Pack your nature bag with everything you need! You will need your journal, writing / drawing utensils, water, snacks and maybe a pair of binoculars or a magnifying glass. Is it wet or muddy outside today? You may need something to sit on!
  2. When you arrive at your destination, focus on what you would like to observe – is there an interesting habitat?  Maybe there is a tree that has caught your eye?
  3. Using your senses – what can you see, touch, smell, and hear? How do you feel?
  4. You can write, draw or even stick things into your journal – express yourself however you would like!

Sedric says:

Express yourself and your observations in any way you like!
