Time:

30 Minutes

You will need:

– Paper / Card
– Leaves, flowers, twigs
– Glue – String and Pegs (optional)

Benefits

Discussing how how facial expressions can show us how another person may be feeling is amazing for children’s development and understanding social cues. We can use this activity to open conversation about what things may make us feel each emotion your child has created.
  1. Taking your paper or card, draw a large oval and cut this out – this will be your face!
  2. Collect lots of leaves, twigs, and flowers from your garden, or a park
  3. Using your glue, attach the natural materials you have collected to your face to create an expression – you could try making a happy face, a sad face, a worried face etc.
  4. Could you add some hair to your face, using your natural materials?
  5. Take a long piece of string, attach the faces that you have created using pegs. Can you hang your display for everyone to see?
