Time:

30 Minutes

You will need:

-A collection of leaves (and any other threadable natural materials you may like!)
-String
-Plastic needle (you can get these for sewing wool)

Benefits

Fine motor skills are vital for doing everyday activities like buttoning up a shirt, using a knife and fork, tying shoelaces and writing. If a young child is unable to do these everyday tasks, it can affect their self-confidence, ability to develop self-care and independence.

  1. Thread your needle at one end of the string and tie a stick to the other end, leaving a good length (around 30 cm) up to the needle
  2. Start threading your collection of leaves, letting each item slip down the string and stack up on the stick.
  3. Once you have your first collection or section threaded tie another stick onto the string
  4. Start threading your second layer, can you make a pattern?
  5. Now it’s time to add another stick!
  6. Can you thread a final layer of leaves?
  7. Once you have finished, tie a loop at the end of your string and hang your mobile for everyone to see!

Remember to only collect leaves that have fallen to the ground!
