Benefits

Helping children to identify and label emotions will build the foundations they will need to develop strategies for managing their big feelings. This provides them an easier route to form social-emotional skills.
  1. Draw, paint or colour a pumpkin onto a piece of card.
  2. On separate pieces of paper that match the colour of the card pumpkin, draw different emotion faces; happy, sad, angry, tired… and if you’re feeling creative, draw them in pumpkin styles!
  3. For older children, you can also write down the emotions for them to match with.
  4. Have fun changing the pumpkins face and learning all the different feelings at the same time!
  5. Top Tip! For younger children, start with only a couple of emotions to make the activity easier to comprehend. Like happy and sad. Once mastered, you can add one extra at a time!

Sedric says:

It’s really important to learn and identify different emotions from an early age so your children can help you as parents and carers to understand how they are feeling.
