Benefits

Colour recognition is a key cognitive developmental step for young children, as it plays an important role in object recognition and is a vital part in helping children to develop their descriptive language skills, which in turn encourages clear communication and understanding.

  1. Cut a rectangle from a cardboard box – a sturdier cardboard is best!
  2. Using paint, or markers, colour the pasta in corresponding colours to your pipe cleaners
  3. Once the painted pasta is dried, glue to the cardboard
  4. Bend your pipe cleaners into flower shapes, try to ensure a reasonable “stem” to be threaded through the pasta
  5. Add any decoration you may like!
  6. Ask your Little Bug to match the flowers with the colours, and thread through! Allow them to explore, removing and re-threading the pipe cleaners
